Multiple Sclerosis

Specialist centre for multiple sclerosis rehabilitation in Marbella

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system with different clinical forms, mainly relapsing-remitting, primary progressive and secondary progressive, all characterised by a heterogeneous course involving relapses, progression, or a combination of both. This clinical variability is associated with the involvement of multiple areas, which may include motor deficits such as weakness, spasticity, gait disturbances and coordination problems, cognitive changes — particularly in processing speed, attention and executive functions — and, to a lesser extent, language disorders such as difficulties with fluency or naming.

Living with MS

Fatigue, which is highly prevalent, also has a significant impact on functional performance. These changes directly affect the ability to carry out activities of daily living and to participate socially, which is why a comprehensive and sustained rehabilitation approach is essential. Evidence supports the need for rehabilitation focused on preserving function, slowing deterioration and maintaining the best possible quality of life.

Our approach to multiple sclerosis rehabilitation

Multiple sclerosis progresses differently in each person. Our model of care is adapted to the type of disease course, the symptoms present and the functional goals of each patient in order to preserve independence for as long as possible.

Fatigue management and energy conservation

Pharmacological control of spasticity and muscle tone

Balance and coordination rehabilitation

Gait training and balance control

Cognitive intervention and management of mental fatigue

Ongoing follow-up and programme adaptation

Specialised Functional Units

Each speciality is focused on one shared goal: helping the patient with multiple sclerosis maintain functionality and quality of life for as long as possible.

Rehabilitation Medicine

We coordinate the programme as a whole: we supervise the pharmacological management of spasticity and fatigue, assess the need for interventional therapies, and ensure consistency across all areas of the team throughout the different stages of the disease.

Neuropsychology

Living with a chronic and unpredictable medical condition such as multiple sclerosis creates a sustained emotional impact. We provide specialist psychological support to help patients and their families adapt to the diagnosis, manage uncertainty, and maintain emotional wellbeing.

Physiotherapy

Neurological physiotherapy is the core of treatment in multiple sclerosis. We work on postural control, balance, coordination and gait using highly specific techniques, always adapting the intensity to the patient’s level of fatigue and the phase of the disease they are in.

Occupational Therapy

We support the patient in adapting everyday life: we assess the home and work environment, introduce energy-conservation strategies, recommend assistive products, and train self-care activities in order to preserve long-term functional independence.

Speech and Language Therapy

We treat language, communication and swallowing disorders resulting from acquired brain injury. Regaining the ability to speak and eat normally is an essential part of the process.

Steps to Begin Rehabilitation

1

Tell us about the case

Complete the form indicating the type of multiple sclerosis, the course of the disease and the patient’s current functional status.

2

We guide you with no obligation

We will contact you as soon as possible to guide you and answer your initial questions about the rehabilitation process.
3

We review your history

Send us the neurological reports, MRI scans and clinical documentation so that our team can study the case.
4

We design your programme

We will arrange a full assessment in order to design a rehabilitation plan tailored to the stage of the disease and the patient’s symptoms.

Multiple sclerosis does not follow a fixed script. Treatment should not either.

Multiple sclerosis changes over time, and treatment must change with it. At Neralis Rehab, we design a programme tailored to each stage of the disease, with a specialist neurology team and the goal of preserving every patient’s independence and quality of life.
