It may include gait re-education, muscle strengthening, the use of orthoses and assistive devices, wheelchair skills training, and optimisation of postural and functional control. Evidence highlights that intensive, task-specific gait training is key to improving speed, endurance and gait quality, particularly in incomplete injuries. In addition, pharmacological management of spasticity, training in basic activities of daily living, and psychological intervention to address the emotional impact of the injury are all essential. Neurological rehabilitation, based on the principles of repetition and specificity, is fundamental in maximising functional recovery and promoting the greatest possible independence for the patient.
